Yumna Khanam joined teaching after completing her Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Electronic Engineering from Queen Mary, University of London in 2005. Yumna completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Education with the UCL Institute of Education in Information Communication Technology and joined Mulberry School for Girls as a Teacher in 2007. As Head of Department, Yumna led on the significant curriculum changes in Information Communication Technology to Computer Science. She also supported staff in the school to develop their own skills to enable them to deliver Computer Science successfully. Yumna is currently Assistant Headteacher leading the development of Mulberry Schools Trust’s STEM Academy in partnership with Mercedes Grand-Prix Limited which offers an extracurricular programme in science, technology, engineering and maths education through vocational training and specialised study for young people in Tower Hamlets. Yumna also has responsibility for all IT services in the school as well as continuing to lead on Computer Science for all key stages. Yumna is passionate about getting more young women in the STEM field and is keen to provide young people the opportunity to overcome challenges and be equipped for the real world.
