Recent data trends and media analysis suggests that the educational disadvantage gap is a) stubbornly persistent, b) widening again and c) here for the long-term. In this short presentation, Dr James Mannion will provide a more uplifting narrative. Many schools have closed the disadvantage gap - including schools James has worked in. Therefore, this is not a 'what' problem - it is a 'how' problem. In recent years, a new field of study has emerged - implementation science - which tells us how to deal with 'how' problems. James will share some detailed examples of what closing the gap looks like in practice, while also suggesting that we need to rethink how we assess and celebrate the achievements of all young people.
